6.2.4 Hammurabi's Code of Law
Hammurabi's Code of Law
Hammurabi ruled the Babylonian Empire through 1792-1750 B.C. Hammurabi thought the Code of Law would help him rule his empire but it turned out it was violent and unfair. The law was for everyone and the goal was to give justice to the people of Hammurabi, and one of the extraordinary important quote for the Code of Law was "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth", which was similar as someone burning your house and you get to burn their house, which makes the law referred to revenge. The Law was engraved on a pillar with two figures on top(King Hammurabi and his Royal Adviser). All the people had to learn the laws and the punishments for breaking them because the punishments depended on how great the crime was.
